during the preceding month.

3.

It is to be understood that your

engagement is for not more than five years

from the date of your arrival in the Colony;

and that if it is established to the satis-

faction of the Governor that you are not

qualified for efficient service there, he will

subject to the confirmation of the Secretary

of State have full power to cancel your ap-

pointment at any time within the said five

years without giving you any further compen-

sation than a passage back to England, which

will be granted only if he is satisfied that

you have by your good conduct deserved it.

If not previously terminated or expressly re-

newed the appointment will cease at the end

of the said five years and you will then be

provided with a free passage back to England.

If re-engaged you will be placed on the

pensionable
